Jessie C. Thompson Memorial

Students of Hot Springs County School District #1:

Hot Springs County Pioneer Association is pleased to announce the fifth year of the Jessie C. Thompson Memorial Writing Contest. Each year, for ten years, the Pioneer Association has been charged with facilitating a writing contest within Hot Springs County Schools. This effort affords students an opportunity to research, interview, and write factual accounts related to the history of Thermopolis, Hot Springs County, and Wyoming.

The Jessie C. Thompson Memorial Award is funded by Mr. J. C. Thompson, son of former Superintendent of County Schools, Jessie C. Thompson. Please find attached to this letter, a bio written by Dorothy Milek, providing a glimpse of the legacy of the Thompsons. The endowment allows each school (RWE, Middle, & HSC High) to receive $500 as an award, to be distributed to the appropriate winners in each school.

The HSCo. Pioneer Assn. looks forward to assisting and encouraging participation in this program. We have a rich heritage to explore and record in this great state and county. What better way to delve into our past than through fresh young eyes and minds, while giving them ownership of their roots as it were, in Hot Springs County and Wyoming!

It is our prayer that Hot Springs County School District #1 would participate in and encourage studies of Wyoming history whenever possible.

Please find attached, a resource guide and some parameters for the writing contest.
